The much-awaited release of Dhoom 3 has been postponed from Christmas 2012 to 2013. Though Yash Raj Films has cited production and post production processes as the reason for this three month shift, industry sources have a different story to tell.
The film has been pushed back to accommodate Salman Khan's Dabangg 2, claim sources. And, it seems, the actor's good friend and Dhoom 3 actor Aamir Khan is the one who convinced Yash Raj to change the dates.
A source informed Mumbai Mirror, "While pre and post-production could be one of the reasons for the delay, these are processes that can be accommodated as per the film's requirement. It was Salman's phone call to Aamir that made YRF shift the dates."
Reportedly, it was Salman who had asked Yash Raj Films to postpone the release of his film Ek Tha Tiger from June 1 to Eid simply because Aamir wanted his Reema Kagti directed project to release on that date.
When Salman heard about Dhoom 3 releasing on December 25, the date that Arbaaz Khan wanted for Dabangg 2 that goes on floors in March 2012, Sallu called Aamir, informed a source.
"Aamir and Salman have been in touch over the phone. Despite Salman being in Dublin for the Ek Tha Tiger shoot, they do exchange notes on phone for at least few minutes every second or third day," said the source.
"Feeling something wasn't right, Aamir asked Salman what was wrong. Salman said that he was worried about the release of his second film in 2012. Aamir till then was not aware of Dabangg 2 schedule being pre-poned to March 2012," said the source. Salman, it seems, informed Aamir about the change in the film's schedule.
The source further revealed, "Salman told Aamir that he wished to release Dabangg 2 on Christmas. However, since Dhoom 3 was scheduled for release on the same day, Salman believed it wouldn't be wise to pit the two films against each other."
According to the source, since one good turn deserves another, Aamir immediately agreed to try and shift the release of Dhoom 3. He told Salman that he would look into the matter. "Aamir prevailed over YRF and they agreed to postpone Dhoom 3," said the source.
